Back Pain Relief Manhattan, NY

We've been in practice for thirteen years and have each adjusted approximately 26,000 people. The number one problem people come to us with is some form of back pain.

Whether they are experiencing pain in their neck, low back, or mid-back, they want relief quickly and to know what's wrong. Below are questions my patients ask about how chiropractic care can help their back pain.

What is Causing My Back Pain?

At Elevated Health NYC, we explain that pain is a wake up call from the body that comes from nerves. Nerves in the back can be irritated by a spinal joint where the vertebrae are not moving correctly or not shaped correctly. The nerves in turn over stimulate nearby muscles causing tightness or spasms. And here's where it gets interesting...the tight muscles are attached to the vertebra thereby inducing further misalignment and irritation. So oftentimes, our patients are stuck in a continuous loop of joint-nerve-muscle-joint. The chiropractic adjustment interrupts this loop!

How Can I Get Relief From My Back Pain?

Treatments for Back Pain NYC

In a word, motion. The body loves motion. We know this intuitively. Motion in fact is life. And a healthy joint moves seamlessly. When joints get stuck, pain oftentimes ensues. Neurologically this is like a stream of hot water flowing to the brain.

The chiropractic adjustment is a quick impulse into the stuck joints that breaks up adhesions and frees up the joint to move. Neurologically this is like a wave of cold water to the brain. The result is a dilution of pain and significant relief -- naturally without medication.

Not only does the adjustment dilute the pain but it also washes away inflammation that may be another cause of pain. All the while, make the joint into a "smart joint" that easily adapts to the prescribed exercises for proper spinal healing and strengthening and structural (postural) correction.

Is the Chiropractic Adjustment Going to Hurt?

The adjustment may be uncomfortable in the beginning but usually no more than the discomfort of stretching tight muscles. It is usually the suddenness of the contact that may catch you off guard on the first treatment. To lessen the surprise factor, I first explain in detail what to expect; assure you of a soft touch; demonstrate the move with you in place; and only when you are comfortable do we initiate the controlled adjustment.

How Long Will it Take for My Back Pain to Feel Better or Disappear?

Typically I target 1 month to alleviate pain symptoms. This varies with each patient. For example, severe cases of back pain that radiates into the leg causing abnormal walking could require as many as 12 visits the first month (3 visits per week).

Is it Okay if I do Yoga or Workout While Under Chiropractic Care?

Normally, we recommend our patients at Elevated Health NYC to stay active while under care. I may suggest a reduction in intensity or perhaps avoidance of certain yoga poses until full recovery is realized.

Our patients experiencing back pain range in age from 30 on up to 60 and beyond.
